Abstract
Meckel’s Diverticulum (MD) is the most common congenital anomaly of the gastrointestinal tract and has a varied presentation. The outcome of the disease depends on the appropriate diagnosis and management. The study aimed to assess the presentation and management of MD in children. This retrospective study was conducted in the Division of Pediatric Surgery, Bangladesh Shishu Hospital and Institute, Dhaka, from February 2019 to January 2023. Total 35 children with MD were included in this study. Among them, most of the children were male (82.9%), and their mean age was 30.1 months. Painless rectal bleeding was the most common symptom. Most of the patients needed surgical interventions like laparotomy with wedge resection (28.6%), laparotomy with appendectomy, laparotomy with manual release of intussusception, laparotomy with resection and anastomosis, etc. Wound infection was found inthe majority of patients (14.29%). This study emphasizes the effective management of MD in children and the importance of early diagnosis and appropriate surgical intervention in resource- limited settings.
