Presentation Title:

Paediatric dental treatment of oligodontia in the context of ectodermal dysplasia: A series of clinical cases

Abstract

Ectodermal dysplasia is a hereditary disease characterised by abnormalities in the development of ectodermal tissues, mainly affecting the hair, teeth, nails, and sweat glands. In terms of oral health, this condition often manifests itself in alterations to tooth morphology or even the agenesis of several teeth. These dental abnormalities can cause chewing difficulties, speech disorders, and a significant deterioration in quality of life. The extent of agenesis varies considerably from one patient to another, resulting in various forms of tooth loss that require individualised treatment plans. Beyond mechanical and functional considerations, the child's growth is an essential parameter to be integrated into the treatment plan in order to offer rehabilitation that is aesthetic, functional, and progressive. Faced with these challenges, a central question arises: how to ensure sustainable care that is adapted to the specific needs of children with oligodontia. Through a series of clinical cases of children followed at the Paediatric Dentistry Department of the Casablanca University Hospital Centre, we present the personalised treatment plans developed for each patient, taking into account functional, aesthetic, and developmental constraints.
