Clinical profile & outcome of pediatric scrub typhus: A prospective observational study from eastern India
Abstract
This prospective observational study was carried out in the pediatrics Department of a tertiary care teaching hospital for 18 months. A total of 64 children aged <14 years were included. All the data related to demography, clinical and laboratory parameters, and treatment outcomes were recorded. Descriptive statistics were used to analyze and report the data. This study concludes that scrub typhus is a neglected rickettsial disease prevalent in our country. For timely diagnosis, treatment, and a favourable outcome, a high degree of suspicion and knowledge of the geographical distribution and clinical manifestations are important. This study can provide clues for primary care physicians to diagnose and treat scrub typhus early.
