Presentation Title:

Advancements in dental bioactive biomaterials: Shaping the future of pediatric oral health

Abstract

In recent years, the field of pediatric dentistry has witnessed significant advancements in the development of dental bioactive biomaterials, particularly restorative materials that are designed to enhance oral health outcomes in young patients. This lecture aims to explore the evolution of these innovative materials, their mechanisms of action, and their transformative potential in restorative dentistry. Dental bioactive materials, such as glass ionomer cements, bioactive glass, and resin-modified materials, are engineered to interact positively with the biological environment of the oral cavity. They not only provide mechanical support but also actively promote remineralization, reduce bacterial colonization, and release bioactive components that contribute to the healing process. This talk will cover cutting-edge research that highlights the physicochemical properties of these materials, their biocompatibility, and their ability to mimic natural tooth structure, ultimately paving the way for improved patient outcomes. Furthermore, we will discuss the implications of these advancements for pediatric patients, who are particularly susceptible to caries and other oral health issues. By incorporating bioactive materials into clinical practice, we can enhance the longevity of restorations, reduce the need for retreatment, and foster a more positive dental experience for children, aligning with a preventive and minimally invasive approach to care. Looking ahead, we will consider future directions in the development of dental biomaterials, including nanotechnology and smart materials that respond dynamically to the oral environment.
