Title: Psychological immunity in adolescent

Abstract

The immune system once thought to be autonomous is now known to respond to signals from other systems of the body, particularly the nervous & endocrine systems. The environmental & circumstantial events which affect the functioning of these systems may also exhibit consequences on the immune system which may lead to stress-oriented diseases in adolescents. Research in the past few decades has demonstrated that the ability of the immune response to confront infectious diseases is influenced by the psychological status of the person. Early childhood adversities & stress have also been demonstrated in the bidirectional complex interaction between the function of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis & sympathetic adrenal medulla axis which eventually affects the immune system making the child susceptible to disease & its progression.
