Title: The impact on pediatrics of COVID - 19

Abstract

SARS-CoV-2 infection is a current public health issue, which is taking relevance as it affects the worldwide population, becoming one of the most recent pandemics, with a high rate of infection and mortality; although pediatric cases are less frequent, critical, and registered, it acquires relevance since the disease may require isolation, treatment, and hospitalization. Therefore, my purpose is to describe the sociodemographic, epidemiological and clinical characteristics of pediatric patients with COVID-19 disease carried out in the Subred Suroccidente, Bogotá, in which 181 pediatric patients with positive RT-PCR test for SARS-CoV-2 infection were included.

Pediatric COVID-19 disease is a recent viral infection in children, with an estimated case fatality of 1.65%, with no significant difference between the sexes, the epidemiologically linked case was mainly familial. Possible at-risk infants were preschoolers, low socioeconomic strata, and children with comorbidities, with an average hospital stay of 5.32 days.

Although the available evidence is scarce and restricts the drawing of conclusions on its own, it is important to recognize that this study contributes to the characterization of patients affected by this disease, whose consequences have been worldwide and range from health to social consequences, and therefore fulfils its objective of being a pillar project for future research to subsequently carry out more robust studies, with larger sample sizes and longer follow-up times.
